1 Overview
TutorHive ("we", "our", or "us") operates the TutorHive AI Solver Chrome Extension and the tutorhive.site website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our service.
By installing the extension or using our service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data with transparency.
2 Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign in with Google OAuth, we receive and store:
- Your Google account email address
- Your display name
- Your profile photo URL (if available)
- A unique user identifier linked to your Google account
Usage Data
We track the following to enforce daily question limits and improve the service:
- Number of questions asked per day (stored as a date-keyed count)
- Your subscription plan (Free or Pro)
- Question text and AI-generated answers (stored in our database)
Screenshot Data
When you use the screenshot capture feature, the selected screen region is temporarily encoded as a base64 image and sent directly to our AI processing server. Screenshots are not stored permanently — they are used only to generate the answer and are discarded immediately after processing.
Local Storage
The extension stores the following locally in your browser via chrome.storage.local:
- Your authentication token (to keep you signed in)
- Your daily usage count (for display in the popup)
- Basic user profile data (name, email, avatar)
3 How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to:
- Authenticate your identity and maintain your session
- Process your questions and return AI-generated solutions
- Enforce daily usage limits based on your subscription plan
- Store your question history so you can reference past answers
- Improve the quality and accuracy of our AI responses
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We do not use your data to train AI models without your explicit consent.
4 Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely in our Supabase database, hosted on infrastructure in the United States (us-east-1 region). We use the following security measures:
- All data is encrypted in transit using TLS/HTTPS
- Row-Level Security (RLS) policies ensure you can only access your own data
- API keys and secrets are stored server-side and never exposed to the browser or extension
- Authentication is handled via Supabase Auth with Google OAuth PKCE flow
Your authentication tokens are stored locally in your browser and are never transmitted except to our servers for session verification.
5 Third-Party Services
TutorHive uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Supabase — Database, authentication, and backend infrastructure. Questions and user accounts are stored here. Supabase Privacy Policy
- OpenRouter / Google Gemini — AI model provider used to process and answer your questions. Your question text or screenshot is sent to this service for processing. OpenRouter Privacy Policy
- Google OAuth — Used for sign-in. We only receive the data you authorise during sign-in. Google Privacy Policy
We do not use advertising networks, analytics trackers, or any other third-party data services beyond those listed above.
6 Chrome Extension Permissions
The TutorHive extension requests the following Chrome permissions and here is why:
- activeTab — To capture a screenshot of the current tab when you use the screenshot feature
- contextMenus — To add a "Solve with TutorHive" option when you right-click highlighted text
- storage — To save your login state and usage count locally so you stay signed in
- tabs — To inject the sidebar and detect when the OAuth callback page loads after sign-in
- scripting — To inject the sidebar and floating button into web pages
- identity — To support the Google sign-in flow
- host_permissions (<all_urls>) — Required to inject the sidebar UI on any website you visit and to enable screenshot capture on any page
The extension does not read, transmit, or log the content of web pages you visit. It only activates when you explicitly trigger it (right-click, click the floating button, or click the extension icon).
7 Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Specifically:
- Question history is stored indefinitely so you can reference past solutions
- Daily usage counts older than 30 days are periodically cleaned up
- If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed within 30 days
- Screenshots are never stored — they are processed and discarded immediately
8 Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — Request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Delete — Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Correct — Request correction of inaccurate data
- Export — Receive your question history in a portable format
- Opt out — Uninstall the extension and sign out at any time; this stops all data collection
